The Writer’s Strike Is Over, But What About The Actors?
March 2nd, 2008
Whew!!!! Thank goodness that the 100 day Writer’s Strike is over! It is clear sailing from here on in! What???? The actors don’t have a contract as of June 30? They could go on strike too???
This is all true! I am truly hoping and praying that the Writer’s Strike has proved to everyone that shutting Hollywood down is not good for anyone, and that there is still plenty of time to begin negotiations and resolve everything before June 30. In fact, A-list actors Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro took out ads in trade publications urging the actors union to start talks immediately. Smart!
One issue they will need to resolve is how to handle forced endorsements by actors of products placed in films. I can see their point. If they endorsed the product outside the film they would get paid. As of now, the studios make the money.
I will keep you posted as soon as any further news is posted about this subject.
